When did you last have your child’s eyes tested?

Soon it will be time to welcome new children into School and over the summer months in preparation for their arrival, we would like to welcome you along to our Practice to talk about your child’s eyesight and to book them an eyesight test.

It is a fact that currently only two thirds of schools in the UK carry out eye tests* and these are not as in-depth as a test carried out by a qualified Optometrist in the practice. (*freedom of information act County Councils)

The College of Optometrist recommends an eye test as early as six months of age and then again at ages 3 & 5 or 6 years. It is important to give you child the best start possible on their journey into education and as eye tests are funded by the NHS, there are no charges associated with your child’s test.

A missed diagnosis can cause your child problems with learning in the classroom and some of these can be avoided with a thorough eye test. Children who cannot focus properly have difficulty concentrating and soon lose interest in reading and learning, however they would not know that it is caused by their eyesight, as that’s the way it’s always been for them.

Eyes are fully developed by the age of 8; therefore an early eye exam is crucial.

The children’s eye test is very relaxed and you and your child will be made to feel at ease.

Support your child by giving them the best possible view of the world as they grow up.
