Whether you wear your glasses all day or for very short periods they will eventually get dirty. This can’t be avoided and will lead you to having to clean them. Cleaning your eyeglasses lenses requires a surprising amount of care though, especially if you don’t want to damage them.

An important thing to remember is to avoid using anything that wasn’t designed for use with your glasses. Specifically, this means not using cleansers containing ammonia. The lenses come with a series of coatings, many of which are sensitive to the likes of chemicals and ammonia. Therefore, the majority of household cleaners are off the table. Below, we’ve produced some advice on cleaning your glasses in the correct ways.

To begin with, wash your hands; any grimy or greasy fingers are just going to complicate matters. Furthermore, the dirt that exists on your fingers could end up scratching your lenses. Once you’re all cleaned up, use a fitting cleaning medium and spray your lenses with it. Make certain that you do this for both sides.

Don’t attempt to do a dry clean if you can help it. If this is unavoidable, use the softest cotton fibre you can find. Tissue without a moisturiser is a decent solution, as is a microfiber cloth.

With microfiber cloth in hand, gently go over your lenses. Afterwards, use a dried section to dry them off. To prevent any harm to your spectacles, don’t use shirttails, paper towels, dishtowels, or other fabrics for drying. They can be rough and lead to scratching.

At Spurrett Optometry, we want to be known for offering the wide selection of designer glasses Kendal has to offer. With such a broad selection of products we will see to it that you don’t come up short in terms of choice once you pick your eyewear.
